Update Obituary for 2021…..New Year, New Beginning…….

The year 2020 A.D. will go down in history as tumultuous, chaotic and unpredictable for many reasons. For our family, the reason at the top of our list is the tragic and shocking loss of our son-brother-uncle-nephew, Shane Stephen Smith. Being the “healthiest 50 year old alive”, he celebrated life with joy and appreciation for all. We wanted to publicly celebrate his life with an attempt at the Ridgecrest Community Center in March, Mammoth Lakes in July and an Open House in September. It was to no avail, with the restrictions in place for large gatherings. Finally, in October, we decided to create a Celebration of Shane's Life and Legacy on his website..... Www.aDayaWeek.com

Now with a new year beginning, we want to share his life with you in hopes we will all feel better in receiving the many gifts that he gave to us in his life of 50 years. You can join with us when you have the time, at your leisure, once or again and again. Using a laptop works best, phones are ok. Enjoy the music, the videos, the slideshow, the stories, prayers and remembrances like at any memorial service.

Blessings to all of you, take care of yourself, love yourself.... with both freedom AND responsibility, and enjoy a wonderful quality of life like Shane modeled for us.

OBITUARY
Late Valentine’s Day evening, 2020, a police officer came to our door to tell us that our beloved son,Shane Stephen Smith, was no longer with us. He died in a tragic car accident on Highway 99 near Stockton. Born in Sacramento on October 4, 1969, Shane expressed the wisdom of many lifetimes while with us during his 50 years. Our wonderful son, family and community leader, the man that the doctors called the healthiest 50 year old they had seen, was gone. Shane was a lover of life and of all living things. He was a healthy living enthusiast, musician, a teacher, a philosopher and comedian. He was a mountaineer extraordinaire, adventurer, mathematician, athlete, coach, wordsmith and a vegan chef.

As a lifelong learner, Shane received 2 bachelor and 2 graduate degrees and several teaching credentials. He worked in several jobs including, most recently, a mathematician position at China Lake. He had just met several of his career goals and was reaching higher with his personal goals. Then, just like that, he became one of the stars he reached for and now flickers in the night.

Shane’s family and friends invite you to a celebration of his life. We’ve prepared a relaxed program to venture through Shane’s amazing life and to find our way through grief-loss-peace and comfort. Shane would want all of us to live a healthy and happy life and we will share what we learned from Shane.

Lovingly submitted by Shane Smith’s family and friends - Susan Jane Smith, (mother), Richard “Steve” Smith (father), Shelby Smith Marth (sister), Stenson Smith (brother), Skyler Smith (brother), Susie Leone (aunt), Mohammed Daud, (uncle) Deb Smith Ormsbee (step-mother), Robert Hyde, Steve Davis and Berry Ormsbee (step-dads), Sara Young (sister-in-law), Kinzler and Huxen Smith (nephews).

OUR ORIGINAL CEREMONY HAD TO BE CANCELLED DUE TO COVID 19. WE NOW PRESENT TO YOU OUR ONLINE VERSION OF SHANE'S CELEBRATION OF LIFE AND THE PROFOUND LEGACY HE HAS LEFT FOR ALL OF US.
